Glasses, Contacts & Sunglasses
Everyone has their own personal sense of style. Which is why, when it comes to glasses, one size doesn’t fit all. So you’ll be pleased to know that at our optical shops you’ll find all the latest fashions and styles. Located right off the main lobby in our Mandarin, Bonneval, and Northside offices, our optical shops can accommodate both your eyewear needs and personal sense of style, whether you’re looking for readers, sunglasses, or have a prescription for glasses or contacts from Bowden Eye Associates or some other optometrist or ophthalmologist. We also accept current prescriptions from other doctors.
Readers & Computer Glasses
For many, our eyes gradually begin to lose their ability to focus up close after the age of 40. It’s a condition called Presbyopia and it is often managed with reading glasses that have progressive lenses. Progressives allow you to see clearly in all fields of vision – far away, mid-range and up close, all without the hard division found in bifocals. While no prescription is needed for Readers, we do recommend an examination because presbyopia does worsen over time.
Computer glasses are individually designed frame-lens combinations for people who spend more than one hour a day working on a computer. Computer glasses provide users a wide range of vision, reduced glare, and the benefit of being able to read small print without changing glasses.
Contact Lenses
There are a wide variety of contact lenses available, made of different materials, colors, and with a wide variety of replacement schedules. Once a standard eye examination has been completed, our optometrist will recommend the best lens design and material based on you preference and lifestyle needs. To ensure a proper fit, additional tests are needed including:
- An evaluation of your cornea
- Measurement of the eye’s surface and curvature
- Pupil and Iris measurement
- Tear film evaluation
- Evaluation of the eye’s surface and contact lens fit
After finding a lens that fits properly, is comfortable and provides optimum vision, your Bowden Eye Associate optometrist will write a prescription. It generally takes two visits to complete the fitting, teach you how to place the lenses in your eyes and properly maintain them. After that, a yearly visit will be needed to monitor the effectiveness of the contacts and the health of your eyes.
Options to reduce dependency on contacts
Imagine reading the paper, playing golf or working at your computer without needing glasses. It’s possible with premium lens replacements. Among the premium lens replacement options available Bowden Eye Associates are:
Crystalens™ - Works naturally with the muscles in the eye, allowing it to shift focus between near and far objects and free you from the need for glasses. Most people who have had cataract or cornel refractive surgery are good candidates for these new replacement lenses.
ReStor® and ReZoom™ - Multifocal lenses that preserve distance vision and correct presbyopia, the loss of focus that occurs in those over 40.
Sunglasses
The importance of good sunglasses cannot be stressed enough because of the problems associated with UV radiation from the sun, including retina damage and the development of cataracts.
Optical Illusions is pleased to carry a wide variety of polarized lenses which block harmful glare and enhance visual acuity, thus easing stress and fatigue on the eyes when outdoors.
Transition lenses darken and lighten depending on the intensity of light encountered and recent advances have enabled them to respond more rapidly to it. Dark outdoors and perfectly clear in, they are available in a wide range of prescriptions, including progressives.
Drivewear lenses are ideal for those who spend a great deal of time behind the wheel. Whether in bright sunlight and intense glare or overcast and inclement conditions, these lenses react to what’s outside and behind the windshield of your car. They are available in a wide variety of prescriptions, including progressives.
Optical Illusions is pleased to offer a wide selection all of these types of sunglasses.
