iLASIK

Imagine life without contacts or glasses. You can see clearly in bright, vibrant color. You no longer have to squint! Activities like hiking, biking, swimming, tennis and golf are more convenient because you don’t have to worry about losing a contact lens or your glasses sliding down your nose. For many, LASIK is helping people become less dependent on contacts and glasses. However, while LASIK can be an amazing procedure, your decision on where to go should not be made lightly. The surgeon you choose can mean the difference between excellent results and real complications. Dr. Bowden is a fellowship trained corneal specialist certified in all refractive procedures. Dr. Bowden offers the most advanced LASIK procedure in the world iLASIK, which includes an integration of the latest vision correction technologies including: Intralase, CustomVue, (Fourier Algorithm, Exclusive Nomogram Technology, Iris Recognition and C-Cap Technology). Bowden Eye & Associates is a full-service vision care practice with patient care as a number one priority. Your eyes are important to us.

LASIK is intended to reduce a person’s dependency on glasses or contacts. LASIK stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is a procedure that permanently changes the shape of your cornea using an excimer laser. LASIK has the advantages over other vision correction procedures, relative lack of discomfort after the procedure and good vision the very next day. LASIK is a life changing surgical procedure that uses a computer controlled laser to reshape the cornea of the eye. Dr. Bowden uses the most advanced laser equipment for LASIK, we call it iLASIK which stands for Lasik by our laser VISX S4 and our blade-free LASIK laser called Intralase. Our refractive team can guide you through the entire process from initial consultation all the way to follow up care. Let us offer you a life without the dependency of glasses or contacts!

LASIK is the refractive procedure where a flap is created on your cornea. This flap is partially lifted by your surgeon. The excimer laser performs the ablation or your treatment on the exposed cornea. The last step is when the flap is placed back on its original position. The flap acts as a natural protector or band aid in order to make the procedure more comfortable for the patient. Once the flap is repositioned it remains in place due to corneal cells that attract moisture from the eye. Originally, the Lasik’s flap was created by a microkeratome with a blade (some doctors still utilize this method). Our state of the art technology includes the Intralase laser which makes the flap, a blade-free flap. This laser is computer controlled allowing Dr. Bowden to sculpt the corneal tissue at the exact depth required for the most accurate results possible. What does this mean for you? Increased safety and a more predictable treatment!

Nearsighted and farsighted people can benefit from LASIK. With nearsightedness, the goal is to flatten the too steep cornea:with farsighted people, a steeper cornea is desired. Excimer laser can also correct astigmatism by smoothing and irregular cornea into a more normal-round shape. Our VISX laser has an iris recognition monitoring system which ensures your astigmatism is treated to your precise degree.

As far as the laser treatment, the patient offers two options. Conventional laser is a laser treatment where the doctor treats your myopia or hyperopia and any astigmatism you may have. Dr. Bowden also utilizes the advanced CustomVue laservision correction treatment which is a personalized treatment specific for your eyes. With a CustomVue treatment, Dr. Bowden will treat your myopia or hyperopia and any astigmatism and your Personal High Order Aberrations (HOA). HOA are the individual high and lows of your cornea (very much like a finger print) which may manifest as glare and/or halos at night. The Advanced CustomVue procedure offers a level of accuracy, safety and customization never before possible in laser vision correction. Special high technology tools allows us to precisely measure and correct the imperfections in each eye, which means a treatment uniquely tailored to our patient.

Doctors have been performing laser vision procedures for over a decade. All branches of the US Military and NASA recently allowed their service men and ladies, as well as, astronauts to have LASIK with the Intralase technique.

Your refractive procedure:

  • You get an comperhensive exam by Dr. Bowden
  • State of the art customvue technology makes a blueprint of the corneas of your eyes. This blueprint or custom treatment calculates your personalized correction.
  • The Intralase laser makes a thin flap in your cornea without using any blades or instruments. Numbing drops will be instilled in your eyes to make you comfortable. Once the flap is lifted your treatment will start.
  • A second laser, the VISX excimer laser, performs the ablation which is your treatment.
  • The flap gets repositioned
  • You will feel quite comfortable after you take a long nap at home.

Enjoy your new vision!
