Monofocal Intraocular Lenses or IOL’s
This lens choice is the oldest type of lens that we offer. These lenses are designed to provide good quality distance vision. Many patients that have progressive retinal disease choose this as their best option for cataract surgery. Anyone that chooses this as their option will possibly require glasses for their sharpest distance vision and will definitely require glasses for up lose and computer needs. This option is covered by insurance.
Spherically Matched
Given the new technology we have available, a newer type of lens implant can be chosen to provide sharper contrasted vision. This lens option is ideal for all patients, including those that have progressive retinal disease as well as different corneal problems. Dr. Bowden utilizes special mapping of the eye that can be used to match the different aberrations, or imperfections that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses, with a lens choice that improves the clarity of your vision after cataract surgery. This lens is designed to give you sharp distance vision after cataract surgery. Reading glasses will still be required after surgery.
Toric Lens
For the patients that have low to moderate amounts of astigmatism that wish to have improved unaided distance vision, the Toric IOL is ideal. This IOL provides excellent distance vision with reduced dependency on glasses or contacts. Patients who have had corneal transplants or who have keratoconus are also candidates for this lens implant. Patients who choose this option may require distance glasses and will require glasses for up close and computer work.
