The Visian ICL™ by STAAR Surgical is an insertable collamer lens used to correct myopia (nearsightedness) in adults aged 21-45 without altering the cornea. It is the only minimally-invasive foldable lens available in the U.S. Made of a patented collagen-containing material called collamer, the Visian ICL is highly biocompatible, meaning it can be implanted in the eye with minimal risk of rejection.
Under topical anesthesia, the ICL and a gel-like substance is placed behind the iris through a tiny incision in the cornea. The gel is then removed. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and no stitches are required.
The ICL's location allows it to provide excellent quality of vision and also ensures that it is invisible to others. The ICL can be removed or replaced at any time, and patients can wear glasses or contact lenses or choose to have other procedures done with the ICL in place.

Testimonial:
I am 40 years old and have worn glasses or contacts for 28 years. I visited Dr. Bowden’s office with the desire to have a Vision Correction Procedure performed. I was aware that Dr. Bowden performed all types of eye corrective procedures and would recommend the procedure that would be safest and most effective for my individual case. After thorough examinations and tests by Dr. Bowden and his staff, he recommended a procedure known as ICL (Insertable Collamer Lens). I had not known the procedure previously and the whole team at Bowden Eye Associates exercised great patience and care in giving me detailed explanations for all of my concerns. A professional, informative, caring and patient team guided me through the procedure and aftercare required. As a result, I have 20/15 vision in both of my eyes. I can’t thank Dr. Bowden and his staff enough for the wonderful gift of perfect vision they have provided for me as a result of this experience.
